Kaitlyn Winston is a 14 year old who attends Mills E. Godwin High School located in Richmond, VA. During her first year of high school, she wrote a number of papers about our sea turtles. Her work won the following awards: 1st place in Zoology and Discovery Channel Young Scientist Award at the Virginia Junior Academy of Science (VJAS) held at James Madison University, honorary mention in Earth and Space Sciences, Joyce K. Peterson Award - best middle school paper, Virginia Museum of Natural History Award for best paper focusing on the natural history of a place.

The Karen Beasley Center for Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation released 4 rehabilitated loggerheads with satellite transmitters (see INTERESTING FACTS to track these turtles) from Topsail Beach on Wednesday, June 8, 2005. Members of the SSBTP participated in the safe release of these turtles.
